The Art of the Penis

Many of your have emailed me privately and indicated that you are enjoying my blog, although the subject matter tends to be on the deep side (no pun intented, surely.) To lighten it up a bit, I thought a good topic would be penises. Yes you heard me, penises. Please do not run, adjust your monitors or scurrey away with a red or ashened face. This subject deserves proper attention.

Why do you think men do not like to talk about penises in general? Not necessarily their own, but if you notice, they shy away from the topic in completely. Please be assured this post in not indended to offend men, or women, for that matter in any way. But when you think about it, men can go on and on about a woman's breasts (and so can women for that matter), but when the subject of penises is approached, an entirely different energy surfaces.

I invite both men and women to participate in this provocative converstion. Please nothing sleazy, dirty or offensive. Just plain discusion the the 'art of the penis.'

This blogging idea can be so much fun! I have not written this much in weeks and this has been a great exercise for me and I do enjoy hearing from you all. This blog is a work in progress. That being said, I am just as surprised as many regarding what is developing.

Thank you for your minds.

That's a good question. Why there would be a different energy behind discussion of this anatomical feature? I think because the penis is so closely linked with power and pleasure in our minds. Not just men's; ours, too. Not to get too Freudian (and I think penis envy is a figment of his imagination), this is the ultimate symbol of The Other for women. And it has been used against us as well as for us. As far as their reticence? They love it. They keep it close to them. They're afraid of losing it. It's important to them. It's kind of cute, really. Except when it isn't.

Thank you mireille.

You are so right about the link to power, and its effect on our minds as well as our bodys!

I had a feeling this would be a great subject for discussion. Thank you for your inspiration!!

They are afraid of losing it, as m said, and afraid of allowing it to be made fun of, or hurt or changed. Just like my nose and my teeth ~and lately my hair and complexion. It is just anatomy. I don't really like talking about it either...don't want to spend much time discussing this with anyone, especially a physician. I wonder why. I've often been so thrilled not to have one though.

So much rides on the penis.

*cymbal crash*

Seriously, though. If a man expresses interest in me I know that he thinks my face and breasts are adequate because he can see them (more or less) behind my makeup and clothing. My Lotus Blossom? It only needs to be warm and wet (sorry). Contrast this with the Moment of Unveiling for the penis. I feel sorry for a man at that moment. He could be smart and gorgeous but, if his lady friend's face falls when she catches her first glimpse of Snickers, it's all for naught. Too much riding on that one piece of flesh, that silly oversized clitoris.

Yes, uncover, discover (but not disgard.)

But there are many penile enhancing drugs and remedies these days.

As much as I do not want to admit it, I think jimkm has made a valid point about the size issue. When you hear about men and their penises, in any type of public forum, it is realtionship to some type of locker-room joke which usually has to do with size. If men really knew that these issues do not naturally mean much to women. Men talking about them only gave them meaning to women. Otherwise, I think size would be an insignficant issue in the scheme of things.

Power, pleasure, visability...these are all concepts made important by men.

B, you said:

"If men really knew that these issues do not naturally mean much to women. Men talking about them only gave them meaning to women. Otherwise, I think size would be an insignficant issue in the scheme of things."

I agree that size doesn't mean as MUCH to women as it does to men, but it does mean something to many of us. I never thought size mattered to me until I dated an absolutely gorgeous man after I graduated from college. He was honestly one of the best-looking people I've ever seen in my life. I could not believe my good fortune. That is, until the disrobing.

He was small. I don't mean small-side-of-average, I mean SMALL. Thumb-size. It was like inserting a large tampon. Now, I am not one to talk about smallness because I have A-cups. But if a guy isn't turned on by my physiology, that's just the way it is. I may regard his preference for big ol' funbags as pervy, but he has a right to his preference. I learned to accept that as a teenager.

So why isn't it okay for women to admit that they are not turned on by a 3-inch penis? Does it really make us shallow? We walk around saying, "Size doesn't matter, size doesn't matter," in an effort to soothe men's egos and reassure ourselves that we aren't shallow. Why don't we just be honest with ourselves and admit that things like penis size, facial attractiveness, job security, height, and income DO matter to us? They matter to different degrees, of course, depending on the person. In spite of my height (just under 6'), height in boyfriends never really mattered to me and most of the guys I dated were shorter than me (except gorgeous thumb-penis man), but I knew 5' tall women who wouldn't date a man under 5'9". Weird, but fine: that's their preference. Likewise, penis size might not matter that much to one woman but be a deal-breaker for another. I think we should own our preferences and not go around feeling guilty about them. Men run the friggin' world and make more than women for the same work. They can survive a small penis.

What I love about winterwheat is her ability to be honest, funny and provocative all at the same time!

First of all, let me say, that you truly got me thinking here (if I could stop laughing so much, maybe I could write something meaningful...You really have a GREAT mind!)

I guess being petite, as many people call me (I really do not like the word short) I want to think that size does not matter. That issues about our body and images associated with them are insignificant. It is something when everyone has to look down to talk to you. It makes me feel like I am going to be recruited for a part in the remake of the Wizard of Oz!

But you know, K., I think you have latched on to something here: in reality it really does. Why that is the case in another issue. Is it because of pleasure, physical appeal or attraction, or because we find a link or nexus between these issues about size, weight, height, etc., with power, success and strength.
Interesting question, most definitely. Thank you for having the honestly, and good humor, to post about this!!

Just had one more thought on this size issue:

I think size, and shape, for that matter is a factor when we are talking about something in the extreme, i.e. a 6'4" man with a penis the size of a tampon, as you say, or one that is bent to look like a watering can (there is a medical name for this.) But for most men, who have 'average' sized penises, they are meant to feel inferior because their is something about being compared to someone with 'a big dick.' Personally, in this type of case, I do not think size matters as much to women, as it may to men. Men, who are average, are meant to feel inferior because of advertisements, or misunderstandings about what they feel is pleasing in the realm of beauty to a woman.

Bridger:

Honesty, trust, mutual respect and love are the most important ingredients in ANY relationship, albeit friendship, marriage, significant other, hands down.

My question dealt more with the issue regarding why men do not talk about their penises. The size issue, I see, seems to be what sums it up for many.
