Do You See the Glass Half Empty of Half Full?
Many of us surely have heard of the saying that the glass is either half empty or half full, and draw conclusions, in one form or another, about our own lives and the way in which we see them. For many, the answer we give symbolically reflects our attitude on life and how it is lived. If we see the glass as half empty, we focus on what has gone or evaporated. If we conclude that we see the glass half full, we see what remains, and what can be obtained to fill it once more.
Do our ideas, and our attitudes reflect how we can spend our time, the nature of our attitude and how we live our lives? Is it positive or negative? Do we consume our days with what we can do to make a difference in the quality of our own lives or those around us in a positive manner? Are we bored or directionless, lonely and are our days filled with negative energy and wasted moments?
For me, an attitude of gratitude has something to do with how I view the cup at any given moment. If I am grateful for what I have, I see the cup as half full, waiting to let it overflow with liquid, until it pours out. If I am in a state of self-pity, my cup not only will be half empty, but I can stand by, and even contribute, to its being emptied, drop by drop.
Do you see your cup as half empty or half full? What do you do to empty your cup or fill it up high at any given moment in time?
Thank you for your minds.

Half empty or half full? I think the glass isn't big enough.
Actually, I was thinking about you, Scott, when I wrote this post!
That is a fantastic answer, by the way.
I am always pessimistic, so the glass is half empty, though I concur with Scott; it's the size of the glass that matters.
Mine varies although I try and keep it full as much as I can.
Another question for another time perhaps - but do you think blogospherians are generally half full or half empty folk?
Cheers.
for me, it depends on what's in the cup.
I'm a half empty type of girl.
Although I have a postive attitude, in general, my perspective depends upon the situation I am in. When I become worried, clearly the liquid drains faster than necessary, down to the bottom of the glass often. When I stay grateful, the cup is usually fuller.
What do you do to keep your cup full and/or empty?
FULL!
Cheers,
Mr. H.K.

And I Quote Blog
It's just
recently I realized I am a pessimist. I always thought I was a realist.
I am a half full person. I try to look at things in a positive manner. I suppose there are times when it is half empty, but it is mostly full.. Like you are am grateful for what the Lord has given me and I look for the good in people.
To keep my glass full, I look at my family and thank God for them. I am a people person and I enjoy serving others. I grew up with a wonderful family and family is my top priority. I like to get out in nature and enjoy the beauty all around me.
I'm half-full, my husband's half-empty, so I guess we even each other out.
My cup runneth over at this point in my life. On occasion it does cross my mind as to what it is exactly that fills my cup up to overflowing.
I agree with Scott that it (the cup, the glass) isn't big enough. It isn't big enough to hold all the blessings that are there for me to claim each day. Many of these blessings are there for anyone to claim. Help yourself to them.
I am not an optimist for thinking this way. I am a realist actually.
In addition to the blessings available to all of us every day, I am blessed on a personal level, too, at this time. I have my health, my family, and a comfortable life.
But I know that most likely I will face trials as I have in the past. Perhaps it will be the death of a loved one, or failing health. This is when I will need to struggle to see the riches that remain in my cup. This is when I will need to struggle to keep hope alive and to trust that, come what may, enough good will always remain in my cup to sustain me through it all. If I succeed in this struggle, then I will be an optimist.
Anyone who doesn't know that 'trick' question by now, will answer half empty.
Because to fill up the 'half full' part you need something.
To empty it, you need only yourself.
It all depends on what is in the cup. For things like beer, I usually go with half empty. Oddly enough, for gas I will say that I have 1/2 a tank, 3/4 tank, or even 1/4 tank - but I never say my tank is 3/4 empty. It is always 1/4 full I suppose. At least now it is, who the hell can afford to buy more than 1/4 of a tank these days?
So my views on remaining volume vary according to the type of container, and the substance in it.
Half full. I disagree with Pragmatician. I'm the only one that can fill my glass in whatever situation I'm in.
Some days I'm just so happy I have one to fill.
I guess it does, to some extent or another, depend upon what is inside the cup, and in this instance, size does matter. Even in the darkest of days, I cannot help but smile at the insights by many, including susie q, whose vision of life as a series of blessings sits well in my eyes.
Luck and circumstance can play a part too.
Sometimes, no matter how optimistically you continue filling your glass, there`s always some person stuck a straw in it when you weren`t looking!
Half-full for sure. That's when it's not running over.
My Cups are always Overflowing,,, even when I feel that it looks empty. Usually I ask myself,is my perception half empty, or half full?
Well if you really think about it, the glass is twice the size it needs to be.
