May 7th: A Special Day

Today is a special day for me. It is May 7th, my son's 22nd birthday. I can still remember the first moments of his birth. The day was a Saturday, right before mother's day. No one can really prepare you for children, despite all you have read, seen or experienced. And the event of their birth is like magic beyond anything that words can describe. I can still, in my mind see his eyes the first time they met with mine.

Being born on the birthday of two great composers, Brahms and Tchikowsky, I believed my son was destined towards musical greatness. After all, this was a great sign, a gifted omen in my mind. He learned the violin, and still plays, on occasion, but did not make music a career. (today I am happy about that fact.) Next Sunday he graduates from college. As we all make go back east to experience this happy event, I believe my son has become a truly great human being. Not because of any one particular idea, event or action, but just because he is who he is: my son, whom I am so proud of today.

I remember waking up, May8th., and the nurse looking into my eyes and saying, "Happy Mother' Day"! My greatest gift was my son. Today, both my children are truly my greatest gifts, and each and every day, I am thankful for their presence in my life.

Happy Birthday, dear son!

Thank you for your minds.

I was going to comment on your comment on my daughter's blog, Lucinda Sans' HoppyTrails. You spoke about remembering when A Clockwork Orange came out as a movie. I do too! We lived in the L.A. area then and Lucinda, Aral, Nivek, and ddragon were just little. We stood in line for the movie (with friends) through the entire first showing, in order to see the next showing. It was a good movie.

But on to YOUR blog: I also remember very well each of my four children's births. They were all exciting and wonderful. I also remember all of their college graduations as so exciting. Congratulations to you and to your son! Cherish him and the moment.

Thank you, for your beautiful words,Lucy!

Maybe we were standing in the same line here in Los Angeles!

Yes, each step and moment of our children's lives to me, is something of magestic value. I have learned, through the illness of a child, that nothing is to be taken for granted, and appreciate and am grateful for each and every good day.

You have a nice Mother's Day too. Sorry you have to work, but when you come home, your children will be there for you, special lady.

Nothing can replace loving, enriching parenting. It's obvious you've been a wonderful mother, and still are. I strive to be that as well. I guess tomorrow is OUR day, and I am soooo blessed and proud to be a mom. I agree that our kids are our greatest gifts in life. Congrats to your son on his graduation and I wish him much success in life. Happy 22nd too!
