Lighting Fires while uncovering our heads
Writing for this blog and reading the comments to the posts has been an enlightening experience. Loving to write has never been hidden from anyone, but revealing myself through my writing, sharing the words, and discovering more about who I am as a result of doing so is a new experience. For me, words have always been the most powerful tools; like owning a 32 magnam, having a hydrogen bomb or a cherished Swiss army knife. Secret explosive weapons in the form of words used to hide rather than as a means of uncovering or discovering that which I want to share with the world. Many people tell you something, but committing words to paper, elevates them to an entirely different place. Words belong on a magestic, regal pedistal garnished with gold casing surrounded by exotic jewels.
Since joining the world of blogging, I have met some wonderful men and women. Today, I was reading someone's blog, www.askthepope.blogspot.com and I could not stop laughing. In fact, I have done little else today but think and admire this individual's creativity and intelligent, witty and dark humor. A real hard act to follow, I must say! This blog was so entertaining, I forwarded it on to my son, along with my own blog as well! Now I fear, after seeing these posts, our mother-son relationship will not be the same. He must surely think me a lunatic, aka, mashunaga, in Yiddish, which he does not speak. He is probably hiding, telling his college friends, he does not even know this strange character; she is stalking me!
You see, I love sick, dark comedy, most of which may be misunderstood by others. Often, I feel alone when laughing at a joke, as if I am committed to solitary confinement, with a knotted rope holding me up, unable to breathe, as I am gaging on my own laughter as a result of the sick and unsavory humor. But I realized something today, through this world of the blog: I am not alone, and am proud of it! I love sick, politically incorrect humor!
Since having your own blog, and reading the comments of others, have you discovered something about yourself that makes you want to stand up, throw your arms in the air and say, "you know, this is who I am and I love it?"
Thank you J.R. for making my day today! Now, I have the desire to start a secret blog, under an anonymous name for my own entertainment.
Thank you for your minds.

Keep on laughing! I've been reading that Pope blog lately too. Funny stuff! Humor really carries me through each day. I guess I'm addicted to it. All I have to say now is thanks for sharing and writing what you do....thanks for YOUR mind.
You are far too kind. Bless you. Bless you.
I, too visited the askthepope blog, and couldn't contain myself. I think I have sent it to a half dozen people who found it equally hysterical. Irreverent, yes! But done so well!
The laughter is in admiration of truly creating a tone and then consistently keeping with it.
I know, I know -- we stuffy Protestants aren't supposed to have a sense of humor about things of religion...or things that aren't wholesome...or what am I talking about?! We don't even a sense of humor at all! :)
I will continue to point people toward PB's site!!! We all need to kiss the ring and loosen up!
With all due respect, I don't think that JP is making fun of the Pope (and neither are we), but the dialogue he creates as he develops this person in this context is absolutely masterful and worth reading!
Oh no -- I didn't think he was making fun! I love it, and I truly do admire the persona he's weaving.
My attempt at self-deprecating humor failed! YIKES! I was merely trying to point at that most people think that anyone with a conservative point of view wouldn't appreciate it, and it couldn't be further from the truth. I work with fellow Christians, and we all were just rolling in true appreciation for the cleverness!
Sorry if my post was misunderstood as anything less than a nod to Joey Ratz!
Oh, Whit...I did not mean you..So sorry..I meant with all due respect to everyone who looks at the Pope as the head of the Catholic church. And on my own part, I did not want anyone to think I was making fun of the pope, finding his blog to be extremely funny.
I agree with you 100 percent. This is cleaver, original humor. I am so jealous!!
Back to the topic of your original post, though...wait, I have to stop laughing.
OK...yes, words have always been my weapon of choice. Leveling someone and leaving them in a pile and their not even knowing they had been dessimated until minutes later.
My 9th grade English teacher turned on me one day and made the comment that I was caustic and facetious. I knew what facetious meant (had heard it growing up), but I had never heard caustic. So I got up and moved to the bookshelves (a definite no-no to leave your seat without permission). Mrs. Smith asked what I was doing, and I replied in my sarcastic way "Looking up a word."
"What word?"
"Caustic."
"Let me know when you find it."
I found it, and then quietly returned the book to its place on the shelf.
I then returned to my chair, and she said "Well?"
I simply shrugged and said "Well...I found one more word to describe me."
She was one of my favorite teachers from high school, and she pushed me as hard or harder than any of her students.
I love the English language and it is probably because of my ability to wield it as a weapon that I understand the converse power of it to encourage others and to build them up instead of tear them down. I have since transitioned my "way with words" to do pursue other interests and professions that have need for a clever turn of a phrase.
So, in answer to your question...I am in a constant state of discovery.
Raised Catholic here, LOVE the askthepope blog.
Seems these days everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over the slightest jibe at Christianity. Reminds me: last night G and I were watching old (1991ish) episodes of The Kids in the Hall. There's one where Dave Foley explains what a horrible carpenter Jesus was. He shows a spice rack, supposedly made by Jesus, that tilts downward. To illustrate Jesus' incompetence, Dave places a jar of cumin seed on the rack; the jar promptly slides off and crashes to the floor. G and I were laughing out loud and marveling at the audacity of the sketch, not because it was actually audacious but because we recognized how offended people would be by such a sketch today.
I'm glad Benedict feels comfortable blogging. But he needs a sexier pic, or at least some concealer around the eyes. Hottie John Paul II is a hard act to follow.
Hello I'd love to thank you for such a great made forum!
Was thinking this is a nice way to make my first post!
Sincerely,
Hilary Driscoll
