I Emerge Victorious: People of the Labyrinths
There is a haunting fragrance from Holland, one of my favorites by Luctor et Emergo called People of the labyrinths. The name literally translates as I emerge victorious. This scent is complex, and as you can imagine, from the beauty of its name, it conjures up images of an adventure of navigation. When these magical fumes first touch the body, they start out as one thing and develop, bloom or emerge into something else. (I bet I now have the interest and the attention of some of my fragrant friends.)
In many ways, the name of this intoxicating and voluptuous fragrance reminds me of the journey that we experience in life. At least for me, I can relate, especially today. Think about what we thought of maybe a year five years ago, or as recently as one year ago, something that we believed would take us on our journey of life and make us happy and content, only to discover its smallness or insignificance to us today. And think of what we feel today, as we emerge, uncoiling like a butterfly, whose wings are spread to show beautiful colors and designs, emerging and coming out, bursting into the realm of life.
We leave Friday for our son's graduation from college. I can remember dropping him off at his dorm in Philadelphia four years ago, being uncertain, knowing no-one, yet planting both feet firmly on the ground to begin his our journey. In these last four years, he has made many friends, defined himself, went abroad to study in Australia, had a few jobs, experienced some of life's disappointments and pains, learned a few things here and there, and now graduates from college. In these last four years, I have gone through the same type of journey, navigating while making many of my own mistakes, learning, walking through some very painful moments, and joyous ones too.
Nevertheless, I can honestly say, for today, that I have emerged victorious! Life may have started out one way, with a set of expectations, labels, and outcomes that I thought would result in the 'winning hand' and turned out to otherwise for me. Today, I know what is important in life, and what is not, am grateful for those small gifts and lessons that I have learned along the way. I take nothing for granted, and cherish so much that I thought was my absolute right to enjoy beforehand.
Tell me about some of the things that have made you emerge victorious.
Since we will be gone for a few days and preparing for our trip, I may not be able to post with regularity, but look forward to reading all of your responses. I thank you for coming to my blog. And of course: I thank you for your minds.

This post MUST be read first before reading the post above about being better with age!
Then, it will all make sense, at least to me, about what it means to emerge victoriusly.
the art with my pic is a page from a wood cut version of the Passover Haggadot which I am just about finished with. 80 pages of text, 20 pages of black and white illustrations and 20 in color.
example of two of the pages

That was a beautiful post. I think attitude is the main thing about aging. To be honest, I don't even know my exact age for certain. I stopped counting in the 90's (The decade - not the age!).
Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting. Hope to see you again soon.
Oops. I meant that comment for the previous post. Must be getting old...
