Why Is Bush Unwilling to Admit Wrongdoing?
Many of you may have begun to see a growing trend in the Bush administration where people suddenly seem to lose interest in a business deal or position where there is political fire inside the Bush administration.
Take for example the nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court of Harriet Miers. Rather than withdraw her name as a candidate, Mr. Bush put the onus on her to say she was no longer interested in the position. The same exact type of resignation occurred with Brown, head of FEMA, once heads began to roll regarding responsibility of Katrina. Today, we see that the small country of Dubai is no longer interested in the once coveted ports deal here in the U.S. Does it not surprise you that Trent Lott resigned as well, and when there was an investigation into the spy ordeal, the second in command to Cheney (please bear with me, I forgot his name) also with no hesitation submitted his resignation.
Does anyone see a trend here where deals and people no longer show interest in something when under fire in the public domain? I thought Bush considered himself a devout Christian. Is he a man above asking for forgiveness? Is it easier for him to ask others to step aside rather than for him to admit blame? Why is this President unwilling to admit wrongdoing and accept blame?
Thank you for your minds.

Good Question.
'Zactly. Glad you finally have your comments turned back on. I was turning red from holding my breath and my tongue. ;o)
Mmmph.
I could rant on and on until you'd probably ask me not to comment anymore. ;)
Honestly, I don't believe that he feels he is doing any wrong. At this point, his actions seem to suggest that he believes that he is above the law, and I can't imagine he'd ask for forgiveness on anything which he feels perfectly justified in doing, no matter how wrong, ugly, or ignorant it might be in the eyes of others.
Ok, I'll just stop right there.

Personly I have more respected for anyone one. "Can admit he or she is wrong or admit wrong doing" "Say I'm sorry" "I don't know" I'm not big bush fan
I think there is a bigger problem: King George doesn't care.
Never has there been a more corrupt, self-serving, arrogant administration. He thinks he is above all people and above our constitution, and doesn't even bother hiding that he is in power purely to serve the rich within corporate America.
Just look at his new budget:
- Cuts domestic program spending by $183 billion during five years, including nearly $14 billion from Medicaid, $706 million from food stamps, $1 billion from child care support, and $36 billion from Medicare
- At the same time, provides an estimated $900 billion over the next 10 years to the top 1% of households
It's time we stop the silly red state/blue state bickering that only serves to distract us from the real destruction caused to our nation by this awful regime.
Speak truth to power!
because he has a huge ego problem
This is one American that cares, and has had enough.
I still wonder what on earth he was thinking with this latest deal. Unbelievable.
i wonder why he is so closed-minded. the other day he said he would veto if congress fought his deal. why not consider that there just may be an issue with all this? why not look for other solutions? why not consider another side of view? maybe dictatorship has gone to his head?
To admit wrongdoing and ask for forgiveness would give him the persona of being weak. And no one wants to appear weak.
I don't remember if Clinton accepted responsiblity, admitted wrongdoing when it became known of his affair with Monica. Is there someone who can verifiy that he *didn't*? (I know at first he denied it, but I don't know if he ever came around to admitting and accepting responsiblity).
The new trend is not to accept responablity when one does something wrong. I see this every day of my life. One tries to ignore the wrongdoing and then attempts to blame someone else when the ramifications start.
He's a dry drunk, that is what is to be expected.

Call me stupid but I have no idea where you are going with this one.
... what am I missing?
to be honest I have wondered for a long time who voted for him? Ok - first time we didn't know too much about him, but the second time? that amazes me.
I wonder if he even has a concience - is he smart enough to have one? sorry - perhaps that was stepping over the line, but i sure am at loss trying to understant him...
The fellows you have mentioned bring me to such disgust that I cannot bring myself to rant on like I had before on your comments page, and, thankyou for teaching me something new....
I hadn't realized that I could delete a bad comment from someone else's blog till you left that terrible thing of a comment on your comments page....and then, like a light sneaking in through the blinds, there it was...the trashcan at the bottom of the comment.
Just stopping by quickly to wish you a wonderful weekend :)
Here is my point:
Did these people and the port authorities from Dubai withdraw because pressue was put upon them to do so by the Republicans who are not in agreement with these entities controling our ports, or was it just because they lost interest?
What seems to happen is that pressure is put on Bush, and somehow people decide to back down rather then for him to come out and say, he made a bad choice.
This can be seen, as many say, to be a result of arrogance, someone who thinks he is above the law, someone whose philosophy consists of my way or the highway.
So, you expect Bush to say he's sorry because other people backed out?
...usually I have no problem agreeing with you, but this is a pretty weak point and doesn't really make much sense...
I'll be a minority here, but, eh, that's normal...lol
Impeach.
Cheers,
Mr. H.K.

If he wasn't the president, he'd be one of those dads who stagger home from the bar and beats the stuffing out of his wife because he's emberassed he can't help his 6 year old with his math homework.
Everyone knows the profile, Bush is NOT a hard guy to figure out, therefore we all know why he's not willing to admit mistakes, because that's just the type of person he is and that's all there is to it. Nothing more complicated than that.
Barbara said: and when there was an investigation into the spy ordeal, the second in command to Cheney (please bear with me, I forgot his name) also with no hesitation submitted his resignation.
His name is Scooter Libby and I totally agree with what you and many have said here. It's called "plausible deniability" and I guess it is all within the macho character of this administration. We are "staying the course" and "steadfast" and have "strength of character." Along with that rhetoric comes blind loyalty, infalability and denial. These faithful soldiers are expected to fall on their sword. I guess no one told Brownie!
I'm not sure really who to blame - some of these decisions are just plain arrogant. And like arrogance so often is, narrow minded and stupid. Is it Bush or his staff? DPW was not going anywhere... even if it were not a scurity risk, the appearabce was obvious to all but the oblivious. Whether or not it was reckless in a national security sense pales in light of the guaranteed political fallout that should have been predicted.
It speaks to the judgement or lack thereof of the executive office and ultimately where that buck stops.

He can not admit to any wrongdoing because in his world he has done nothing wrong!
To him, starting a war to give his defence contractor buddies mega profitable contracts is just good business. Fibbing to the public is OK because the public does not know any better.
In otherwords, for Bush the ends justify the means - no matter WHAT those means are.
So he has done nothing wrong in his pointed little head.
Hi Barbara! I can't left a comment on the Post "Acceptance", so here it is: LOVE so much this quote:
"I have found some peace in the fact that ultimately, for some things, there are simply no answers."
This wise quote fits exactly with the current moment of my life. Thank you so much! And who was the author?
Haliburton got the no bid contract from Clinton.
Politicians often change course. They never admit they were wrong. Who wants to see such an admission on the other guy's campaign commercials?
I liked Clinton. I liked him especially for vividly illustrating that the President is a man not a god. Still the war with Iraq was at least initiated by Congressional action during his term. He did not veto the legislation.
I give Bush credit for tackling long festering problems which no other president has had the courage to tackle. It is like a dog walking on its hind legs. Of course he doesn't do it well. The wonder is that he does it at all.
