The Art of Sensuality: Part II

It seems from the prior post, that many can and do appreciate sensuality in its truest form: that which appeals, in one form or another to the senses. Once again, however, it made me think about a manner in which one could fully express himself/herself sensually, without being vulgar, or perhaps, crossing undefined boundaries. For me, making a statement about who I am as a sensual woman does not necessarily involve my speaking about sexual topics, nor specific body parts. Sensuality, unlike sexuality, is truly a great art form!

For example, as indicated above, one of the most beautiful forms of sensual expression, at least for me, is through the use of words. That being said, being able to write, and share what I have to say, with so many people, is a very pleasurable experience for me. What is also true, is being able to read my own words, and see how, these letters strung together, form phrases, with meaning of beauty and purpose.

Another activity that I could do, and this would direct relate to the sense of smell, is spray some of my favorite fragrances on pieces of cardboard and send them out to others to see whether they find a similar pleasure. How does the individual react to these scents? What impact do they have? To me, this is a rather innocent activity, but depending upon how it is received, can have momentous consequences. For those of you who know me, and my love of fragrances, I would take 5 of my top scents for this experiment: Frederic Malle's Musc Ravegeur ( a scent not for every woman); L'Orchidee Blanche by L'Artisan,Luctor et Emergo, ThePeople of the Labyrinths; Frederic Malle's, Carnal Flower and of course, by beloved Angel by Thierry Muegler. I imagine that an individual, who loves the sense of smell, would enjoy these fragrances, and might even come to a conclusion or two about what is pleasing to me in this venue.

As for the sense of hearing, there are so many pieces of music that I find pleasing to my ear, it would take far too much time to list them here.

But here is the question of the day: Using which sense, how would you best communicate your sense of sensuality to someone? What would you do, and what would you hope to accomplish or tell about yourself through this exercise?

Thank you for your minds.

Out of the five senses i would use sight... I like to write alot... I could create a beautiful piece of written art to stimulate or attract attract specific audiences and or people... Writing is a very sensual experience for me and those who are familiar with my writing. Intelligence is intriguing to me so i use writing to tease/ ease/ please the mind..... The answer to the second part of your question is.. I don't expect to accomplish anything through this exercise... I just enjoy you blog Barbara... Anyone who knows me knows i like to write so... Now others will know...

Good moments...

Excellent question.

For me it is the sense of smell and taste...totally intertwined with one another.

Our instincts drive us to water, food, and sex. (survival, nourishment, and reproduction)

I believe that food can be more pleasurable than sex (at times)....the sensations are more sublime.

I am a fan of movies and books that use food as a metaphor for love...Babette's Feast, Chocolat, Para Agua, Como Chocolate...among others.

Taste is indeed a powerful sense.
And I am with you all the way about writing, soulsista!

For me, nothing compares to the pleasure of eating goat cheese!

Goat cheese is sheer heaven. I am a huge cheese fan!

For me it's the sense of touch that really does it. A hug, a passionate kiss, a caress.

Voice is the sense and what would be said would be so personally tailored to the person and situation that I can't even venture a prediction... But voice is sexy...sensual, expressive...

Touching, as I said below, even the Torah, sends goose bumps through me.

Yes, the voice has endless possibilities as an instrument of the senses.

Touching is the best. When one's flesh touches another, there is a connection that trannscends. If the two care about each other, it will evoke many emotions.

I can't seperate them.
Smell can be something as simple as baked bread. It smells warm to me. Homey, inviting, welcoming. I find that very comforting and sensual.
Cinnamon and vanilla I find very sensual in a sexual way.
Sight: The image of a candle burning. I find this very calming and romantic. Simple.
Feel: An approaching thunderstorm. The feel of the electricity in the air. The mix of cool and warm air. The smell of dirt and rain.
I find all of them to be sensual.
Taste: Salt from a neck. The taste in someone's mouth that mixes with mine. Food combinations. I love the sensation of cold and hot in my mouth at the same time.
I also think all of these things can be combined with touch to add in another element.

For me, the question would be, "How do you elevate yourself to a state of mind that will allow you to use your senses, whichever ones, to experience the passion of sensuality." It depends on my state of mind, my physical acuity, and where I want to go emotionally at that particular moment to communicate sensuality. If I knew how to reach that state of mind on demand I would be a very happy girl.

I'd probably focus in on the sensuality of language that you mention - the poetic usages, the music of language. Of course that's no longer what's in style with poetry, but for me, "It don't mean a think if it ain't got that sing..." - although I'm overstating a bit. I do find sharp, imagistic poetry good sometimes even though I tend to prefer musical language.

interesting post. At first I thought I would use sight to communicate my sensuality, but I think in fact it would be touch. In truth, I dont think I am a terribly sensual person.

I do love smell and am addicted to fragrances. Candles or even fresh cut greens can get a rise out of me! lol I am not familiar with your perfumes(I'll have to make note of them and head to Sephoras). I wear Moschino Couture right now... It smells sooooo incredible to me, but doesnt last :(

Well written as always, I guess the easiest way to communicate something is by using words.
I believe though that there are better, more 'speaking' ways of communicating fascination, admiration, love etc...
