Should There Be a Cease Fire in The Middle East?
As this crisis looms large in the Middle East, and lives are lost, property destroyed, and the balance of power shifted inside Lebanon to a terrorist militia, here is the question of the day:
Should there be a cease fire in the Middle East? If so, what should be the conditions? If not, how do you balance the casualties against what is at stake for Israel in terms of the living next to people who hate them, and with the voice of Iran looming large in the distance?
My prayer is for all soldiers to return home safely, and for no more lives to be lost.
Thank you for your minds.

Hiz Buuuuh Lahhh
should be wiped off the map at all costs
I'd have to ask; what's the purpose of a cease-fire? What would it accomplish? Seriously?
no, let Israel start slappin' back for a change...
Today, 8 Israeli soldiers were killed in these attacks. These young men are probably the same age as my son, or younger. It pains me deeply to see this happen, watch other young men and women fight to keep the State of Israel a living entity. So the question becomes, what can we do, from here?
As you know, we are going ahead with our trip, that is what we can do. Everyone shows solidarity in his/her own way.
I have started packing already.
When are you leaving for your trip?
the more gunfire and bombs, the more the rightwingers and the militants ascend in power in Both Israel and in the Hezbollah. Israel will not destroy Hezbollah any more than Hezbollah orHamas will destroy Israel. This conflict is not going to be solved by the biggest guns. The last person with a serious vision of peace for the region was Rabin, who was gunned down by a crazy zealot, who was not a Palestinian. this sort of fanaticism is destructive no matter where it comes from. Another commenter ask, :What's the purpose of a cease fire"? I suggest that it would keep more women and children from being blown up. I have not read of Israeli civilian deaths in this latest contest to see who has the biggest "member" in the Middle East, and that's a good thing. But I have to wonder, what does the life of a woman or child mean, if it's a Lebanese life?
Tab,
My trip is in 2 weeks! Thank you for asking.
No cease fire. Not until Hezbollah is disarmed or destroyed.
But then there will be other terrorist organizations....it is an issue on eternal vigilance.

Bottom line, in my ever-so-humble opinion: Israel's neighbors are not ever going to change their minds about hating a Jewish State, nor working to annihilate it, cease-fire or not. Israel is in a bind, in that they may indeed always need to route out aggressors that kill and maim their military, civilians, and children alike.
Put another way, if you don't kill cockroaches right away, their numbers will grow exponentially and bury you. You cannot tell a cockroach, "Go away." You cannot reason with a cockroach and say, "Look, if you just go over there and play, I will not disturb you." Consistently and diligently wiping out as many as you can that infest your home, while not likely to fully exterminate them, will at least keep the numbers more manageable.
Does that make me a blood-thirsty war monger?
Go YY!
If someone is constantly poking a stick in my side I would eventually punch them in the face too.
There seems to have been problems there for ever. Would there EVER be an end to it all?
I am with you that there should be a cease fire. Everyone everywhere should put down their weapons and realize that there is no winner...only losers. Whenever an innocent civilian or a misguided rebel is killed a family suffers. It doesn't matter which side of the war one is on there is sadness for everyone.
It seems the Middle East is a spot with many conflicting views where no one side is willing relent. I feel for the civilians who cannot rest, cannot send their children to school, cannot go to the market place for fear of being caught in a suicide bomb, air strikes or gunfire.
Good luck on your trip and we will pray for your safe return along with the safe return of others.
Your blog is very insightful and I look forward to many more entries.
Thank you for your comopliments I like my eggs...
Let me clarify my position: I asked the question whether there should be a cease fire. Frankly, I do not agree that there should be one until Israel can be assured that Hezbollah is dismantled pursuant to the UN Resolution 1559. What has happened is that for the past 6 years, the Lebenese government has allowed this build up of weapons in spite of the resolution passed two years ago, creating an inbalance in power among terrorist groups.
That being said, I have no answer at this time.
I think whatever will bring peace should happen. I don't think a cease fire is the answer. I think it's finally time for this thing to play out once and for all. I hope Israel survives.
No, I don't believe there should be a ceasefire until the job is done because it will only give Hezbollah time to regroup for more of the same. They must be rooted out, once and for all.
Oh this is a hard one...
Im really HATING what is happening..
BUt if they stop now, that might strengthen Hez for time to come.
for a cease fire to work, all must want it and it seems Hezbollah does not.
I do not understand why the Lebanese let this happen on thier soil. Hezbollah is destroying them more than the Israelis
