A Spider Web of Conflict: The Crisis in the Middle East

As a person who keeps abreast in politics, especially those that are taking place now inside of Israel and Lebanon, the climate in that area has turned from luke warm to intensely hot. Most people believe that the conflict began when Hamas captured an Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalet, and took him hostage. Then the situation was esculated when Hamas, a known terrorist group crossed into northern Israel, and captured 2 Israeli soldiers. All along both factions, fired rockets inside of Israel making a bold statement that Israel as a Jewish state was anything but an enemy.

Today, however, the situation is much more intense, and it is as if many different spiders have climbed inside the center of a web of violence seeking to spin its own yarn. We now have the Lebonese government, whose own citizens are being killed and wounded, along with many innocent Israeli citizens who occupy the northern part of Israel and Haifa being killed and injured as well. Bombs continue to blast and katusha rockets continue to fire, with 131 being launched only today at northern Israel. Then of course there exists the larger spiders, the Teranchulas and the Black Widow, that is, the United States and Iran caught in the cross-fire. Syria, of course, the brown spider is also present, supplying many weapons and money to Hezbollah too.

Where are we today, day 18 inside this conflict? So many casualties on both sides, remains a truism, whether rockets are held inside the homes of civilians inside of Lebanon or not, deaths of young and innocent remain. Moreover, innocent civilians inside of Israel continue to be attacked, many in a state of constant shock as the people inside of this small country continue to be immersed inside an electricity of fear.

Bush has not ever been a President whose actions I agree with in any forum. That being said, I question whether he is a true friend to Israel, as the media proclaims, or whether he is using Israel as a pawn to fight the greater war that is beginning to emerge with Iran, who turns a deaf ear and blind eye on the United States, and believes Israel should be wiped off the map. That being said, is Hezbollah too fighting the war for Iran, that will eventually surface in time, a terrorist group being manipulated by the puppeteer, the President of Iran?

Personally, I believe that no one is a true friend to Israel. That when push comes to shove, as history has shown us, we stand alone, as Jews, and the only ones who will come to our aid and defense are our own people.

We still plan to leave for Israel in the coming days. My prayer and wish is that we will be there to celebrate a truce, and rejoice a victory, even if it is a small one, that may surface for Israel. When I arrive, I want to be able to kiss the ground I stand on, as if I have truly come to a safe home.

Thank you for your minds.

Dear Barbara,

I hope you aren't right about Israel being left to stand alone. I believe there are many in the US who back Israel, myself included. But Bush is in over his head with middle east politics.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you travel there. Stay well.

p.s. my summer vacation is almost over and I will return to blogging next week. Lots of new photos! Yeah!

I agree, Barbara, Bush is completely over his head on this. Foreign affairs, in general, have been messed up completely under his administration.

It will take us many years to win back all the goodwill we've lost around the world. That is, if we can win it back at all.

Barbara- having just come back from Israel, I can say that I'm very proud of you for not cancelling you trip. The best thing that you can do for Israel is go there and do whatever you plan to do. You'll be very safe. Frankly I felt safer there than I do in the States.

Best of luck and may your trip give you as much strength as mine brought me.

I respect your calmness balanced with your passion in this catastrophic time.
While I am not in complete agreement as to the immediate antecedents to this current war(There were several military provocations on june9, 13 and 23,
the "question of "who started it", is secondary at this point. Every government involved in this scenario is perfectly willing to civilians, men women and children in order to advance political goals. This includes Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Hezbollah, Israel, and the United States.
I believe strongly that the world needs an Israel to exist, and that Israel has the right to dwell in peace and safety, alongside neighbors who enjoy the same right.
I believe that you are in error to believe that Israel is alone in the world, and that noone will support Israel. It is quite possible to believe in Israel and love the people of Israel while abhorring some of the policies of the government of Israel. Policies, I might add, that have not borne the hoped for fruit of peace and security.
There have been many Jewish persons who have felt the same way, people of respect and stature, such as Martin Buber, and Albert Einstein, who lived in the time of the Holocaust. I don't believe we can dismiss the thought of persons of such powerful integrity of character by saying, "They just don't understand what it's like", as I have heard said.
there are those who care for the orphans of history, as I believe the Jewish people have been, and the Palestinians are.
Thank you Barbara, for allowing me to respond.

It is indeed a complicated situation. Not certain I will feel safer in Israel, knowing that we are surrounded by so many people who hate us, but I will at least feel as if I am doing a good deed by going, and fulfilling a life dream.

Breaking News now: There will be a 48 hour cease fire.

Sadly I agree, it's basically letting Israel do the dirty work and suffer for everyone one else on the planet.

so you're saying the Jews are to stupid to realize that WE forced them into a war?... (I mean defending themselves....)

How can someone be so proud of their heritage and yet have such low self esteem? It seems like an oxymoron, doesn't it?

and WE'RE responsible for people hating us because we're prosperous?

since I'm not a great thinker or writer, and can barely read, let decipher a sick-ology book, maybe you can explain this in greater detail, while keeping it simple for the unwashed masses...

I think Iran might be involved, if nothing else to be able to 'delay' or buy tiime in their nuclear program issue, and later on be able to justify it.

I think that external intervention is needed; but I ask, will Israel accept it?

Thank you for all your good wishes and kind words for a safe journey. I truly, truly appreciate them from the bottom of my heart.

I suppose it is difficult for a conversation to take place about the Middle East, and Israel, today, without there being some type of political statement involved. As a Jew, living in the shadow of 6 million who were murdered in the Holocaust is a daunting responsibility and image, and we vow that this shall never happen again. Coincidentely, there are now about 6 million Jews in Israel, which makes the meaning of the actions taken even more significant.

My wish is that while we are there we can rejoice and celebrate in a truce, and that the IDF soldiers can be returned. Of course, this is all my opinion, and anyone is free to disagree, which is the beauty of being inside America.

Well Barbara, i believe that the majority of people alive today have vowed for the Holocaust to never happen again. As for politics, they don't really interest me enough for me to make an effort to understand or analyze them. I'm more of a humanitarian. I wish you a good and safe trip to Israel.

Howdy

I just joined this good place. Lots of individuals have contributed so many good things here. Please accept my little contribution towards community. I would like to share some quick weight loss tips. If you need to know how to lose 10 pounds in a calendar week, you are probably not looking for a common dieting and workout plan. You can lose weight with a basic diet and workout plan, Still this involves a lot of time doing intense cardio drills and adhering a strict diet. Here I will draft the perfect steps that I took to lose 10 pounds in just a workweek.

1. Keep Distance from all fried foods for the week
2. Drink In an 8oz glass of grapefruit with breakfast each day. (this accelerates up your metabolism)
3. Eat average portions (stop consuming when you are full)
4. Rather than taking 3 big a meals a day, take 5-6 small meals to keep your metabolism up and keep your body burning fat.
5. Do not eat anything after 9pm. Its good to eat before 9 P.M. so that our body gets proper time to burn calories before sleep.
6. Get plenty of sleep every night. Not getting plenty sleep causes been verified to be a leading factor to the body putting up excess fat.
7. Use a body/colon cleanse for the 7 days. This will get rid of unnecessary fat stored around the stomach area as well as cleanse your body of harmfull pollutants that cause you store fat and feel tired. Flush away excess pounds around the stomach area that otherwise would be hard to lose.
8. I suggest you using Acai Berry Diet Pills. This one is tested to work, and you can get a free trial.
9. For those mens/womens who desire to burn fat quickly, avoid alcoholic drink.
10. A low GI diet is an outstanding method of loosing fat quickly.

Thanks!.!
