Addicted to Blogging
When I first discovered I could create a blog, it was like everything else: once I figured out the basic mechanics, i.e. how to post and comment, I had to dive into the project with thrashing passion, and make it an all or nothing pursuit. Daily posts and comments were going to be the norm, not the extreme. Hence, what you see is what I am!
Blogging, to me, is like anything else I have done it my life, be it exercise, reading, writing, going on another internet site, called Make-up Alley, Ebay, smoking or drinking, chewing gum (all four of these later vices are out of my life today) One is too many and a thousand are not enough. Once there, I stay with every ounce of steam and energy geared up until the bitter end, sometimes driving myself into a complete frenzy. Could it be akin to addiction?
According to Webster's Dictionary, addiciton is defined as one who is psychologically or physiologically dependent. In other words, hocked and unable to let go, resulting in an inability to surrender, and a state of powerlessness.
But not all addictions are bad, and some, I submit, so long as not self-destructive, and some are clearly better and more healthy than others. (just think about gambling or sexual addictions.) For instance, when I gave up smoking more than 10 years ago, I took up daily exercising. Some would say this is an addiction, but to me, it is a healthy one, and I am happy to have this particular outlet in my life.
So here is the question of the day: Do you have an 'addictive personality?' Are you or have you been addicted to anything (please do not answer if this makes you uncomfortable in any way)? Have you become addicted to blogging? If so, is it a healthy addiction, or potentially or becoming unhealthy?
Thank you for your minds.

Hi B!
I absolutely have an addictive personality... and that's why I've never experimented with serious drugs- I KNOW I will like it! Thankfully the things I'm "addicted" to aren't harmful. Well, maybe just for my wallet! ;)
As for blogging, when I had it up, I was very much addicted to it- thinking about possible post topics, checking back to see if anyone has commented, constantly tweaking/editing, etc. But since I've taken it down due to a stalker, well, I kinda miss it.
Hope you are well, B... RSJ has my info if you want to get in touch with me!

I have a blogging problem being 7 hours ahead of EST and 10 hours ahead of you guys in PST.
Most of the time when I make a comment I don't get to see any responses until at least the next day.
Addictive personality yes indeed. Grateful recovering alcoholic/addict. I didnt think it was a harmful addiction, didn't think I was hurting anyone but me..boy was I wrong.
Smoked for 23 years as well, just gave that up too :) Still love speed (motorcycles, cars) and anything extreem. I suppose I will settle down in time :)
Gum is an addiction??? I'm going to need rehab.
Fortunately I don't have an addictive personality. My life is all about balance (Libra attribute). This isn't to say I've never gone overboard with certain substances or pursuits--just that I recognize when they're taking over my life and when it's time to scale back. Each of us has 24 hours in a day. The more time we spend on one thing, the less we can spend on other things that may matter more. The thing I've been most "addicted" to over the past 15 years or so is achievement, to the detriment of my personal relationships. I'm trying to learn to let go of the need to achieve--remember the "be a coffee achiever" ad campaign from the 70s/80s?--so my life is richer and more harmonious. I do drink decaf, so that's a step in the right direction. :-)
I've actually been giving some thought to this lately.
I don't think I have an addictive personality, I've never had any problems with chemicals, gambling or any other thing. However, I am an obsessive person and when I am interested in something I tend to attack it with a consuming passion.
I have had to limit my blogging time to early mornings and evenings after my daughter has gone to bed. When I don't regulate myself it definitely cuts into more important things.
I am totally addicted to blogging. I can't start my day without going through my daily reads, which number 26, although not all of them are updated daily) and check them repeatedly all day. Whenever I do something I immediately want to blog about it. I think it's cuz I'm alone all day and I feel like I'm having a converstation with someone.
It's better than the drug and alcohol abuse of 10+ years and smoking for 20.
Completely OCD/addictive personality here. I think it is a good thing, it inspires me to put energy into something rather than dabbling. My blog is a definite time drain, but I was wasting time on my subject matter already, and at least now I'm creating something.
I was addicted the MOMENT i discovered blogging! I love writing and reading and thinking and computers...i think blogging is a great way to share a passion for interests and build community.
I don't have an addictive personality when it comes to stuff like drinking, smoking, or drugs. Well, I haven't tried drugs. I take a drink maybe once or twice a year, never smoked much, and quit completely at least 25 years ago.
But I am COMPLETELY and ABSOLUTELY addicted to BLOGS.
don't think i'm addicted to blogging -- although i find that i like to check this one out each day!
i can't say i have an addictive personaltiy either or any real "addictions". i like my "sims" game way too much, but not quite an addiction.
Yes, I can relate to many of your feelings.
What I meant by a gum addiciton is this: When I quit smoking more than 10 years ago, I began to chew gum; not just one or two pieces, but packs and packs. Now, I do not chew anymore.
I have seven blogs going, but I don't have an addiction. I just have an identity crisis and am in denial.
well, let's see.
I'm not good at saving money.
When I was younger, there was no holding dope until later (I prefer being married to being high these days).
I become annoyed when I have to actually do work instead of blogging.
It is very difficult for me to lie when the solitaire game asks, "Do you want to play another game?" and click no.
I have stayed up all night playing Tomb Raider or Sims on numerous occasions.
Last call meant it was time to drink and drive (i know, bad Kurt).
Yeah, I guess I'm an addict.
