Ladies & Gentlemen:,The President of The United States Of America: Thoughts on Clinton, Obama & McCain
It is a known fact that Women on the verge of Thinking loves the topic of politics. Although the issue has not been broached for some time (but for that matter, not much has been discussed on this blog lately), I thought it would be good to weigh in our our latest presidential race.
To say that this contest, especially from the Democrats is exciting, thrilling actually, would be an understatement. Not only is the idea of a woman or an African America becoming the nominee for the White House an exciting possibility, but the issues that these candidates face, and the energy and knowledge that they bring along with them is an opportunity for fresh and exciting possibilities for a country that is currently sliding down a slippery slope.
For those of you who have been faithful readers of this blog, it is known that I have been opposed to the invasion of Iraq from day one. Many of you also are aware that my belief has been stedfast that Mr. Bush has taken this country down a dark path, resulting hardship for so many Americans today. I have remained firm in this belief. Some of you were naysayers, challenging the positions I took on Bush and the Iraq war. It would indeed be an interesting exercise to calculate how many of these readers continue to be Bush supporters, as was the case in 2004-5, and how many have changed their minds. That being said, one must go forward always, and hindsight, although helpful, cannot change what is. That being said, the questions regarding the types issues that I believe the President of the United States must address, and in what manner would they be most appealing to the American people, is compelling and relevant.
First of all, I believe we must have a viable plan to exit Iraq as quickly as possible. Too many lives have been lost, both American and Iraqi to continue a war that, in my humble opinion is going no where. As a result, many valuable resources from the United States, and dollars have been depleted to fight someone else's battles. As a result, we, the people of the United States of America have suffered from this invasion in a way that has made our country weaker not stronger. Moreover, I believe that the health care issue must be solid, that every American, regardless of age, pre-existing condition or income has a fundamental right to health care. It should be a basic right in our society. Additionally, the economy must be turned around. Many people are unable to afford the basic necessities of life as they exist today, with their high prices, gas, food, housing, and a change must occur. As many of you know, I am a passionate lover of the State of Israel, who has a fundamental right to exist. It is also my opinion that no matter who is elected, it will ultimately make no difference in terms of the security or safety of Israel. The only one who will be there for the Jewish people is Israel itself. We cannot count on anyone, as has been proven time and again by history.
Frankly, four more years of the same course of action will spell disaster for this country, which at one time, was considered the grand diamond, sparkling brightly among other small gemstones. rough. Now, it appears as if other countries, China, among them, and possibly Japan will pass the United States quickly, especially if we continue on a course that has to date, lead us down a murky and unstable path.
John McCain, unlike Bush, is a likable man, one who is quiet in his demeanor, and who appears to be willing to negotiate and not bully his way around America. That being said, it is my personal opinion that to elect John McCain would keep American on the same path, a course that would dig a deeper and larger hole for this country. An individual who has no clear plans regarding an exit strategy for Iraq, and waivers on the economy and health care is unacceptable.
May the best man/woman win. May this country be restored to prosperity and dignity.
